It all starts with the fiber!

Beautiful Beatrice!

Quality yarns begin with quality fiber, which comes from quality sheep. When Wheely Wooly Farm was building the flock in the early years, we carefully hand selected each and every sheep brought to the flock. Wool quality was the top consideration, followed by temperament of the sheep. After passing these two criteria, we studied the history of the flocks we bought from, and analyzed the health of the individual animal, to be as assured as possible that we were acquiring healthy, disease-free, vigorous animals. This was a LOT of work! People thought we were crazy.

Why did we go to so much trouble? First, if you don't have good wool, you won't have good yarn. Second, if the sheep is unpleasant, for whatever reason, to have around, things are harder! Third, you have to work hard to get healthy sheep. Poor health comes in many forms, from many sources, and flock managers are in constant engagement to keep poor health at bay.

Behind every skein of Wheelspun Yarn produced here on the farm is this effort, and we believe it is the reason our yarns stand out so much! As knitters and crocheters ourselves, who wear the wool...rely on the keep us going and with style all winter, we can assure you that you will love your new yarn!
